Fraud is Fraud and It Hurts Us All
Pharmacy fraud is “unhealthy” for our industry. CMS has trouble distinguishing independents from other HME dealers when it comes to DMEPOS fraud. So I’m more than a little concerned when Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum recently announced a guilty verdict against a former Miami pharmacist for stealing over $1.3 million in prescription drugs from the Florida Medicaid program….and so should you!

CMS Says No to Accreditation Extension
NCPA met recently with CMS and asked for a six-month DMEPOS facility accreditation extension specifically for independent community pharmacies. Regretfully, government legal counsel advised CMS that they don’t have the statutory flexibility to grant pharmacy that option. Translation: NO!
Oh well, I guess I’ll have to let my corporate office do the accreditation work for me like the big suppliers. Wait, I am corporate and the chief cook and bottle washer too!
